Job Summary We are looking for a hands-on Web Developer who can work effectively in ColdFusion today while helping us move toward an open source web stack over time. This is not a role for someone who wants to stay in one narrow lane forever. It is a good fit for a developer who likes to explore, learn, build, and modernize. Our current environment includes ColdFusion, SQL Server, and a mix of supporting technologies, but the direction is toward open source tools, modern REST-backed applications, and static web assets. We want someone who can be productive in the current environment without being frustrated by change, and who is energized by the chance to help shape what comes next. What You’ll Do - Maintain, troubleshoot, and improve existing ColdFusion applications - Build new functionality using a more modern approach, centered on REST APIs, static front-end assets, and open source technologies - Write and maintain SQL Server queries and application-side data logic as part of day-to-day development - Help modernize existing systems in practical, incremental ways - Participate in technical exploration, prototyping, and solution design - Work in a team with a wide variety of technical backgrounds, interests, and specialties - Help choose, test, and stand up the tools and environments needed to move development forward - Add jQuery after Javascript. - What We’re Looking For Required - Experience building or maintaining web applications in ColdFusion - Strong working knowledge of SQL, especially in a SQL Server environment - Experience with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, jQuery, and web application fundamentals - Familiarity with REST APIs - Ability to work independently and solve technical problems directly - Curiosity, initiative, and a willingness to learn new tools and approaches Preferred - Experience moving applications away from commercial or legacy platforms toward open source solutions - Experience setting up your own development environments, servers, containers, labs, or test systems - Interest in infrastructure, deployment, or full-stack troubleshooting - Experience with static web architectures, API-driven applications, or modern lightweight web stacks - Comfort evaluating new tools and learning by building Who Will Do Well Here This role is ideal for a developer who: - Can handle ColdFusion now, but does not need it to be their forever future - Enjoys learning by doing - Likes to build their own server, test ideas, and figure things out - Gets excited by new tools, new platforms, and the freedom to explore - Wants to work in an environment with a wide range of technical disciplines, both human and machine - Appreciates having access to the equipment, tools, knowledge, and technology needed to do the job well Why This Role Is Different We support developers who like to build.
