Job Description
**This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Cyber Systems Engineer - Level 4 based in the United States.**
This is a senior-level cyber engineering role supporting mission-critical defense systems where cybersecurity, systems engineering, and compliance converge. You will play a central role in ensuring the security posture of complex, high-assurance systems deployed in highly regulated environments. The position involves close collaboration with internal engineering teams and external subcontractors to ensure alignment with stringent cybersecurity frameworks and government requirements. You will be responsible for guiding security design decisions, validating technical compliance, and ensuring readiness for authorization milestones such as ATC and ATO. This is a hands-on, high-impact role where precision, accountability, and technical leadership directly support national defense objectives. You will operate in a structured, security-focused environment requiring strong coordination, documentation discipline, and cross-functional leadership.
### Accountabilities:
- Serve as a primary cybersecurity systems engineering point of contact, ensuring end-to-end security posture alignment across system design, subcontractor deliverables, and program requirements.
- Review, validate, and approve subcontractor cybersecurity designs to ensure compliance with RMF and NIST controls and alignment with overall system architecture.
- Oversee the collection, validation, and delivery of cybersecurity and compliance artifacts required for Authority to Connect (ATC) and Authority to Operate (ATO) processes.
- Ensure proper implementation and flow-down of cybersecurity, TEMPEST, and system security requirements across external partners and internal engineering teams.
- Support the development and maintenance of key security documentation, including STIGs, scan results, network configurations, SBOMs, and vulnerability mitigation plans.
- Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to ensure secure system integration within complex defense system environments.
## Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree with 8+ years of relevant experience, Master’s with 6+, or PhD with 4+ years in cyber systems engineering or related disciplines.
- Strong background in cybersecurity engineering with experience applying RMF and NIST frameworks in regulated or defense environments.
- Hands-on experience managing cybersecurity compliance artifacts such as STIGs, ACAS scans, SCAP results, SBOMs, and POA&Ms.
- Experience with systems engineering tools such as DOORS and Atlassian (Jira/Confluence), with familiarity in Agile methodologies.
- Active Security+ certification and eligibility to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Defense Secret clearance (U.S. citizenship required).
- Strong communication, stakeholder management, and cross-functional collaboration skills in high-stakes technical environments.
- Ability to take ownership of complex technical challenges and drive solutions in mission-critical programs.
## Benefits:
- Competitive salary range with potential for bonuses and performance-based incentives
- Eligibility for relocation assistance depending on assignment
- Comprehensive health, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance coverage
- Paid time off, company holidays, and additional leave benefits
- 401(k) retirement savings plan with company contributions
- Exposure to advanced defense and aerospace cyber engineering programs
- Opportunities for professional growth in high-impact, mission-driven environments
- Inclusive and equal opportunity workplace culture
