Job Description

Moffatt & Nichol specializes in large complex waterfront infrastructure projects and is recognized as one of the worldwide leaders in this field. We are actively seeking a Civil/Structural Engineer with commercial diving certification and experience to perform structural inspections both above and below water. As part of our Baltimore, MD dive team, you will be working with a professional engineering inspection team that provides consulting services to clients primarily in the Baltimore area and infrequent overnight travel is required. As a member of the firmwide Inspection & Rehabilitation (I&R) Practice, occasional travel to waterfront destinations (both domestically and internationally) is available for those that would like to participate. The principal function of this position is be part of a team that evaluates marine structures and ports through above and underwater engineering inspections, follow-on report preparation and development of structural repair designs. You will also perform high-level analysis and design. You will utilize modern workflows that include field tablets, UAS (drones), nondestructive testing and evaluation, marine mapping and imaging, analysis and modeling tools. We perform these inspections for marine terminal operators, private clients, states, municipalities, the US Navy and many more! Grow your career with us! Duties, responsibilities and activities may change at any time with or without notice. Qualifications: - Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from an accredited university. Structural coursework or focus is preferred - Engineer in Training (EIT) required - Certified Commercial Diver is required; ADCI, HSE, DCBC, IMCA, ADAS or completion of a US military equivalent diving school required - Entry level to 4+ years of related diving and inspection experience required - Valid driver’s license in good standing - Boater Safety Card preferred - Availability and willingness to travel as required. Most work is local/regional and employee is able to return home most evenings. When travel outside of the Baltimore area is required, it is typically less than 2 weeks in duration - Possession of or eligibility to obtain a Transportation Workers Identification Credential (TWIC) - Possess DBIDS card or eligibility to successfully pass background check to secure Department of Defense DBIDS card and other badges required by clients preferred - Current First Aid, CPR, AED, and Oxygen Administration certification preferred - Selected candidate must consent to and pass a post-offer/pre-employment drug screening - All new hires will be required to successfully complete and pass a pre-employment (post offer) background check in compliance with NIST 800-171 - Moffatt & Nichol uses E-Verify and employment is contingent upon the legal ability to obtain employment in the U.S. and to present the required documentation at hire Working conditions: The incumbent works in both the office and field: - Office work requires ongoing design work requiring focus - Field work requires diving in waters and exposure to extreme elements - Must be able to move among a variety of simultaneous priorities - Some extended days, evenings, and weekend work requirements Physical requirements: This role requires the incumbent to be in excellent physical condition: - Commercial diving requires specific physical conditioning and strength - Field work requires incumbent to carry heavy equipment over unpaved, rural, and unmarked terrain - The incumbent must be able to lift, carry, climb, and navigate in a small boat Base salary range: $33.00 to $50.00 per hour based on years of experience, level of education obtained, professional registration, and meeting the required qualifications in the job description. In addition to salary, Moffatt & Nichol also offers generous rope access and dive pay along with a personal equipment reimbursement program. Base salary range only applicable for candidates who will be hired and working in the Maryland market.
