Job Description

Excelon Solutions is looking for a highly skilled Mobile Developer specializing in Android to join a long-term contract engagement on a fully remote basis. The core objective of this role is to conceptualize and build a mobile proof of concept that decodes various symbologies (such as barcodes and QR codes) typically encountered in retail environments, with the goal of eliminating the need for costly third-party licensed scanning SDKs. This initiative is projected to save the client approximately $8M per year in licensing costs, making it a high-visibility, high-impact engineering effort.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and build a mobile proof of concept for decoding retail symbologies using device cameras
  • Implement augmented reality features leveraging ARKit and ARCore
  • Develop camera capture and image processing pipelines using Camera2 API and CameraX
  • Build and maintain native Android components alongside React Native modules
  • Collaborate with product and engineering stakeholders to validate feasibility and performance of the POC
  • Optimize scanning accuracy and performance to replace existing licensed barcode-scanning solutions

Requirements

  • Strong hands-on experience with native Android development
  • Experience with ARKit and ARCore for augmented reality features
  • Experience with Camera2 API and CameraX for custom camera pipelines
  • Experience with React Native for cross-platform mobile development
  • Prior experience building barcode, QR, or symbology decoding solutions is a strong plus
  • Ability to work independently in a remote, long-term contract setting
