Last date to apply: 5th August 2026
What is the Expert AI & Controls Automation?
Reporting to the Group Senior Manager, Internal Controls and Compliance, this role is the team’s dedicated AI specialist, partnering with control owners and the wider second line to bring agentic AI and intelligent automation into the control environment.
What does the Expert AI & Controls Automation do?
AI Solution Design & Agentic Workflow Engineering
- Design and Build: Design, develop, and deploy GenAI and agentic workflows that automate control testing, evidence collection, and exception handling across both business-process controls and IT general controls (ITGCs) such as access, change, and IT operations management.
- Digital Controls: Design and embed controls over digital products and platforms, building in the right control coverage as new digital journeys and services are developed.
- Solution Architecture: Apply modular, reusable design patterns and build solution blueprints that scale across HQ Functions and Operating Companies (OpCos).
- Pipelines & Integration: Build automated data, prompting, and evaluation pipelines, and integrate AI into GRC platforms (e.g., Optro) and core enterprise systems.
- Testing & Continuous Monitoring: Build AI agents for two distinct purposes (a) executing control testing, and (b) running continuous, exception-based monitoring, moving the function beyond periodic, sample-based reviews.
AI Model Quality and Evaluation
- Evaluation & Testing: Establish eval-driven development — custom evals, benchmarking, and stress testing — to keep AI solutions accurate, robust, and reliable.
- Model Monitoring: Build automated monitoring for model performance, drift, explainability, and degradation to trigger timely updates and retraining.
- Responsible AI: Embed governance, guardrails, and human oversight to manage the risks specific to GenAI and autonomous agents, in line with relevant standards and emerging regulation.
Collaboration, Advisory & Enablement
- Partnering with the First-Line: Translate controls and assurance requirements into practical AI solutions, advising control owners and the wider second line on automation opportunities.
- Cross-functional Coordination: Work with data, digital, and technology teams to shape AI roadmaps and infrastructure aligned with the control environment.
- Capability Building: Raise AI literacy across the Internal Controls & Compliance team through reusable patterns, playbooks, and best practices, and mentor colleagues on working effectively with AI.

What are we looking for, and what does it take to be our Expert AI & Controls Automation?
- 5+ years in AI/ML engineering, applied AI, or intelligent automation, ideally with exposure to risk, audit, or controls
- Hands-on experience building, deploying, and scaling GenAI and agentic AI solutions — prompt engineering, RAG pipelines, tool use, and agent frameworks — with strong Python and modern ML/LLM tooling, APIs, and cloud platforms
- Solid grounding in AI evaluation and testing — custom evals, benchmarking, stress testing, and monitoring
- Working knowledge of AI governance, model risk, and responsible-AI practices (e.g., NIST AI RMF, EU AI Act) is an advantage
- Degree in a quantitative or technical field (Computer Science, Data Science, or equivalent); a professional qualification such as CA or ACCA is preferred
- Confident communicator who can explain AI concepts to non-technical controls and audit professionals
- Big 4, telecom, or second/third-line-of-defence experience is strongly preferred; familiarity with GRC platforms (e.g., AuditBoard, MindBridge) is an advantage
