About the Role As a Full-Stack Engineer at Reveal, you will bridge the gap between high availability cloud infrastructure and mission critical mobile applications operating at the tactical edge. You will own the evolution of our core web application and the underlying infrastructure and APIs that empower users in disconnected, low bandwidth, and completely offline environments. This is not a standard, run of the mill CRUD web app role. You will be responsible for solving complex data serialization and synchronization challenges, engineering seamless integrations with external enterprise and tactical systems, and ensuring our mobile apps have a rock solid, highly secure backend to authenticate and sync against. If you are a self driven engineer who loves floating seamlessly between frontend UI architecture, complex database design, and Infrastructure as code, and you want to build software where reliability directly impacts real world missions, this role is for you. ### Responsibilities - Architect & Scale Full-Stack Services: Design, build, and maintain high performance APIs using Ruby on Rails and robust frontends using React. Ensure exceptional reliability, maintainability, and response times for web, desktop, and mobile clients operating in challenging environments. - Database Engineering: Own the data architecture by driving advanced PostgreSQL data modeling, complex schema migrations, query optimization, and indexing strategies to safely operate production databases at scale. - Modernize Infrastructure & DevOps: Manage and scale containerized services using Docker and Kubernetes, while leveraging Terraform to provision infrastructure as code. Continuously harden and optimize automated CI/CD pipelines to boost developer velocity and system stability. - Drive System Security & Cryptography: Implement zero trust security models, robust authentication/authorization controls, and secure data at rest/in transit encryption strategies. Help design and support PKI certificate lifecycles and mTLS configurations for secure device communication. - Elevate Engineering Excellence: Foster a culture of high craftsmanship by delivering production ready, thoroughly tested pull requests. Participate heavily in proactive "shift-left" technical design reviews before writing code, and provide rigorous, constructive peer code reviews to protect branch integrity. - Support Cross Functional Missions: Collaborate across teams and partner directly with our business development and mission success teams to troubleshoot complex technical escalations, ensuring our users' critical field operations remain unblocked. ### Requirements - 5+ Years of Professional Full-Stack Experience: Proven track record of designing, building, and maintaining production grade applications at scale. - Expert Backend & Database Architecture: Deep expertise in Ruby (including Rails or similar frameworks) and SQL. Designing scalable services, data modeling, complex schema migrations, and optimizing low performing queries. - Advanced React Architecture: Deep proficiency in building clean, modular component hierarchies using modern React, managing complex application state, and optimizing frontend performance for high concurrency apps. - Production PostgreSQL at Scale: Deep knowledge of PostgreSQL internals, advanced indexing strategies, query execution plans, transaction management, and performance tuning. - DevOps & Infrastructure as Code: Strong hands on experience using Docker and Kubernetes to containerize applications and manage orchestration, alongside Terraform to provision and manage cloud infrastructure as code. You are comfortable owning CI/CD pipelines and ensuring your full-stack applications safely build, scale, and deploy to production environments. - Asynchronous Autonomy & Execution: Proven ability to manage your own productivity and maintain high feature velocity in a fully remote, asynchronous environment. You are a proactive communicator who unblocks yourself by raising questions early, collaborating on designs before writing code, and providing clear visibility into ticket progress. ### Nice to Haves - Defense & Public Safety Sector: Prior experience developing secure, high availability software for the DoD, first responders, or public safety agencies. - TAK Ecosystem Familiarity: Hands on experience working with Team Awareness Kit (TAK) servers and clients (e.g., ATAK, WinTAK, CivTAK), including managing real time geospatial data flows and supporting low latency tactical architectures. - Biometric Data & Compliance: Exposure to the secure ingestion, processing, and storage of biometric data, with familiarity regarding privacy regulations, encryption standards, and EBTS (Electronic Biometric Transmission Specification) requirements. - Startup Agility: Past experience working in fast paced startup environments, demonstrating a proven ability to thrive amidst technical ambiguity. - Mobile Optimized API Design: Proven success architecting APIs explicitly tailored for mobile clients, with deep consideration for versioning, secure data exchange, offline data synchronization, and performance in low bandwidth or disconnected environments. - AI/LLM Integration: Experience incorporating LLMs and AI powered systems into production backend workflows, including API design for AI features and evaluating model constraints for real world use cases. - Polyglot Capabilities: Reading proficiency or exposure to other languages utilized across the Reveal ecosystem, specifically Kotlin, C++, C#, or Python, to help assist with cross platform integrations or legacy refactoring. ### Compensation - Salary ($150,000 - $185,000) + Equity - Salary is determined by the applicant's experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, internal equity, and alignment with market data. ### Benefits - Medical, Dental, Vision coverage - HSA/FSA options - Parental Leave - 401(k): 100% match for the first 6% contributed - Unlimited Paid Time Off - Home Office Stipend This position will be open on our website until it is successfully filled.
