Job Description
Are you a detail-oriented accounting professional who enjoys digging into the numbers and making an impact on business performance? We are seeking a General Accountant to join our Accounting team in Beverly, MA. In this role, you’ll play a key part in maintaining financial accuracy, supporting month-end close activities, managing fixed assets, performing account reconciliations, and providing valuable financial analysis to leadership.
This is an excellent opportunity for an accounting professional who thrives in a collaborative environment and enjoys a mix of hands-on accounting responsibilities, variance analysis, and process ownership. You'll work closely with publishers, management, and cross-functional teams to ensure accurate financial reporting and support strategic business decisions.
This position will be based in our Beverly, MA office on a hybrid schedule.
Position Specifications
Key Results Areas
- Maintains proper job costing for all books in work-in-progress.
- Works with Publishers to come up with list of cancelled titles and handles write-off of titles while ensuring policy is being followed.
- Prepares monthly reconciliation of WIP and Fix asset accounts and supporting schedules. Including the pre-press schedule.
- Prepares and enters monthly journal entries.
- Manages fixed assets, ensuring proper procedures around asset purchase and disposal.
- Perform expense and variance analysis reporting including YE Accrual needed.
- Assists Accounting Manager with annual audit around WIP/Fixed assets.
- Verifying safety testing to correct project ID prior to payment by AP.
- Reconciles Bank accounts.
- Coding prepaid, raw materials, freight and printer invoices.
- Enter, as needed, any AP that is not WIP related.
- Prepare ad hoc reporting for management as required.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
- Strong Excel and computer skills.
- Knowledge of job costing preferred.
- Self-disciplined with a strong work ethic (as added hours are needed for month-end closings).
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Approaches work in a meticulous and thorough manner with a strong attention to details.
Education and Experience
- BS in Accounting/Finance or a 2 year Accounting technical degree.
- 3 years’ progressive work experience in an accounting environment.
- Manufacturing/Cost Accounting experience is a plus.
- Dynamic GP system experience is a plus.
