About Our CTCT Division The CTCT division (a joint venture between Trimble and Caterpillar) develops positioning and control products for earthmoving and paving machines in the construction and mining industries, using technologies such as GPS, optical total stations, lasers, and sonics. The products are used in a range of applications where the operator of the machine benefits from having accurate horizontal and vertical guidance. Job Purpose: This is an exciting opportunity for a recent university graduate, or someone nearing completion of an engineering university degree, focused on software development. This position is ideal for a candidate looking to start their software engineering career with the world leader! This is a developmental role, and successful candidates will be trained and supported in software engineering that supports autonomous systems to help shape the future of Grade Control and Automation technology. You will collaborate on an embedded C++ platform featuring Android and Angular user interfaces, directly impacting high-tech solutions that transform real-world construction and engineering workflows in a supportive environment. About the role You will contribute directly to the development of cutting-edge Grade Control and Automation solutions, gaining hands-on exposure to full software development lifecycles while working alongside collaborative industry experts. Key Exciting Responsibilities - Collaborate within a forward-thinking software team to develop embedded C++ systems and dynamic Android/Angular user interfaces - Participate actively across software development cycles, from core component creation to system testing and issue reporting - Identify areas of improvement and help translate real-world customer needs into high-performing technical features - Contribute to a safe, positive, and highly inclusive workplace culture focused on continuous learning and innovation Essential Skills & Experience - Holds or is completing a relevant qualification in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Mechatronics, or a related field - Practical exposure to Object-Oriented Programming (Java or C++) and interpreted programming languages like Python • Understanding of common software design patterns and a methodical, detail-oriented approach to problem-solving - Strong communication skills with a drive to take ownership of assignments and work collaboratively Experience - Prior experience with Agile software development frameworks - ​Active interest in emerging technology, hardware-software integration, and automation systems Additional Information: - This position requires the successful candidate to work at Trimbles Christchurch office.
