Serko's Group Accountant takes ownership of the day-to-day financial control functions for the Group. The Group Accountant is responsible for reviewing the work produced by the financial accountants while also looking after the more technical aspects of the Group. This position is ideally suited to someone who has worked as a financial accountant and is looking to move into a more senior role where reviewing the day-to-day work of other team members and driving process improvement are the main focus.
This is a fixed-term maternity leave cover.
What you'll be doing
- Oversee and review the day-to-day financial activities, including month-end accounts for the Group, which includes NZ, Australia, India, the US and China
- Consolidate the Group accounts and produce monthly management reports, including commentary on significant movements from the budget.
- Work closely with the FP&A team, provide monthly analysis of results.
- Review and approve payments across the Group.
- Control and compliance: ensure the efficient operation of all accounting reporting systems.
- Review the work of Financial Accountants and Assistant Accountants, providing feedback and training where necessary.
- Preparation of the Interim and Annual Reports in compliance with IFRS.
- Act as the main contact for the external auditors.
- Prepares grant applications with government agencies, specifically the NZ RDTI.
- Support design efficient process and identify areas where improvements can be made
- Act as the number two to the Group Financial Controller, helping create and refine the group accounting policies and fill in for the Controller with internal and external stakeholders as needed.
- Other duties and project work as required.
What will you bring
- Advanced Excel or Google Sheet skills
- Strong knowledge of NZ IFRS
- Experience managing or reviewing month-end work and reconciliations
- Experience in Xero or NetSuite is not required but beneficial.
- Proven record of preparing monthly finance reports, including commentary
- Diligent with a strong attention to detail
- Use of AI tools
- Google workspace experience is not required but beneficial

Key Responsibilities
