Job Description

Seeking a Project Manager with heavy civil experience for a direct hire opportunity with our client in Columbia, SC. This position offers full benefits including PTO, health insurance, holiday pay, and a vehicle allowance! Salary is between $110K - $125K per year (based on experience) The Project Manager is responsible for planning, coordinating, and overseeing all phases of heavy civil construction projects from initiation through closeout. This role ensures projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with contract requirements, quality standards, and regulatory guidelines. ## Key Responsibilities ### Project Management - Manage all aspects of heavy civil construction projects, including planning, scheduling, budgeting, execution, and closeout. - Develop project scopes, objectives, schedules, and resource plans to meet client and stakeholder requirements. - Monitor project performance, budgets, costs, and timelines to ensure successful delivery. - Manage procurement activities, including subcontractor/vendor selection, contract administration, and bid evaluations. - Oversee change orders, cost controls, and financial reporting. - Conduct site visits to monitor progress, identify risks, and ensure compliance with safety and quality standards. - Maintain project documentation, including contracts, permits, RFIs, submittals, change orders, and project records. - Prepare project status reports, forecasts, invoices, and stakeholder updates. ### Team Leadership & Communication - Foster a collaborative environment among superintendents, foremen, field personnel, subcontractors, and stakeholders. - Lead project meetings and coordinate activities across all project participants. - Provide leadership, guidance, and performance oversight to project teams. - Maintain strong relationships with owners, engineers, architects, contractors, and regulatory agencies. ### Safety & Compliance - Ensure compliance with OSHA, MSHA, federal, state, and local regulations. - Promote and enforce a strong safety culture on all projects. - Support the maintenance of required safety and compliance documentation. ### Administrative Responsibilities - Review payroll coding, project expenses, and job cost reporting. - Participate in project financial reviews and forecasting activities. - Support business development efforts and hiring initiatives as needed. ## Qualifications ### Required - Minimum 3 years of construction project management experience. - Experience managing heavy civil construction projects. - Strong knowledge of project budgeting, cost control, scheduling, and risk management. - Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Microsoft Project, SharePoint, and construction management software. - Ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and construction documents. - Strong leadership, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills. ### Preferred - Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field. - Professional certifications such as PMP, EIT, PE, OSHA, or MSHA. - Experience with contract negotiations, claims management, and regulatory permitting processes. ## Working Conditions - Frequent fieldwork in varying weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold. - Exposure to active construction environments and heavy equipment. - Occasional lifting, walking, climbing, and other physical activities associated with construction site management. - Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
