Job Description
We're redefining how robots are deployed. Our platform enables users to simulate, test, and optimize entire robotic systems in parallel. By removing the barriers that have kept advanced robotics out of reach for all but the largest players, we're ushering in a new era of manufacturing—one where mass reshoring is not only viable, but inevitable.
With our industrial AI platform, we enable companies to design and optimize multi-robot workcells in the cloud, eliminating the need for manual robot programming. Our Resolver technology automatically generates collision-free robot programs by optimizing workcell layouts, task allocation, and robot paths, helping customers increase throughput and reduce the cost of industrial automation before deployment.
We are searching for a motivated Lead ML Engineer to lead the development, maintenance, and integration of data-driven models of industrial robots for use in motion planning and optimization. This person will play a vital role on the team, provide technical leadership to a team of 2–3 engineers, and help shape the future of industrial automation.
Reporting to the Senior Director of Robotics, the Lead ML Engineer will leverage their technical and theoretical knowledge to extend our core technology capabilities. This role will define the technical direction for our robot controller modeling technology and contribute to novel research.
### In this position, you will:
- Develop machine learning methods to predict the dynamic motion of industrial robots.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to a team of 2–3 engineers.
- Define the technical vision and roadmap for data-driven robot dynamics modeling.
- Apply strong MLOps practices to build and maintain the data pipelines and infrastructure for robot motion modeling.
- Integrate learned models into Realtime's Resolver optimization engine.
- Collaborate closely with robotics and software engineers to deliver production-ready solutions.
- Help determine product and technical priorities while contributing to development in a fast-moving technology company.
### Requirements
**Required qualifications:**
- Experience with multiple machine learning methods for robotic manipulators, including several of:
- System identification
- Dynamic model estimation
- Trajectory generation
- Learning from demonstration
- 5+ years of programming experience (python or C++)
- Strong software engineering habits, including version control and unit testing in a Linux environment
- Demonstrated technical leadership through architecture ownership, project leadership, or mentoring engineers
- MS or PhD in Robotics, Computer Science, Mathematics or related disciplines
- Strong English communication skills, both verbal and written
- Ability to work from our Boston, MA or Berlin, Germany office approximately 50% of the time (US work authorization is required for the Boston location)
- Ability to excel in international and collaborative teams
- Self-driven and able to solve challenging technical problems
- Desire to work in a fast-paced startup environment
**Preferred qualifications:**
- Experience with industrial robots and their simulation environments
- Familiarity with robot kinematics and dynamics
- Strong publication record in ML & robotics conferences & journals (CoRL, RSS, ICRA, IROS, ICML, ICLR)
- Experience developing and deploying machine learning models in production software
- Unlimited PTO
- Commuting Expenses Covered
- Telecommunications Stipend
