Job Description
**About this role:**
Wells Fargo is seeking a Lead Software Engineer
**In this role, you will:**
- Lead complex technology initiatives including those that are companywide with broad impact
- Act as a key participant in developing standards and companywide best practices for engineering complex and large scale technology solutions for technology engineering disciplines
- Design, code, test, debug, and document for projects and programs
- Review and analyze complex, large-scale technology solutions for tactical and strategic business objectives, enterprise technological environment, and technical challenges that require in-depth evaluation of multiple factors, including intangibles or unprecedented technical factors
- Make decisions in developing standard and companywide best practices for engineering and technology solutions requiring understanding of industry best practices and new technologies, influencing and leading technology team to meet deliverables and drive new initiatives
- Collaborate and consult with key technical experts, senior technology team, and external industry groups to resolve complex technical issues and achieve goals
- Lead projects, teams, or serve as a peer mentor
**Required Qualifications:**
- 5+ years of Software Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
**Desired Qualifications:**
- **IAM & Security Expertise**
- 5+ years of strong experience in designing and implementing **enterprise IAM/IGA solutions** (SailPoint, Saviynt, OIM, Azure AD, etc.)
- Deep understanding of **identity lifecycle management**, access certifications, role modeling, and policy enforcement
- Experience with **authentication and authorization protocols** (OAuth2, OIDC, SAML, SCIM)
- Hands-on experience integrating IAM systems with **directories (AD/LDAP), cloud platforms, SaaS applications, and enterprise systems**
- **Java Engineering & Architecture**
- Architect and develop **enterprise-grade Java applications** focusing on scalability, resiliency, and performance
- Design **microservices-based architectures** and APIs (REST/SOAP) for IAM integration
- Build custom extensions, workflows, rules, and connectors for IAM platforms (including but not limited to SailPoint IIQ)
- Expertise in **system integration patterns**, event-driven architecture, and messaging systems (Kafka, MQ, etc.)
- **Engineering Excellence**
- Lead full **Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC)**: requirements, design, development, testing, deployment, and support
- Drive **DevSecOps practices**, CI/CD pipelines, and automation
- Ensure high standards for **code quality, testing (unit/integration/regression), and maintainability**
- Conduct **design reviews, code reviews**, and troubleshoot complex production issues
- **Microservices Engineering & Distributed Systems:-**
- Solution and build **cloud-native, microservices-based IAM platforms**
- Expertise in: **Spring Boot / Java / Node.js / .NET microservices frameworks,** **RESTful APIs, GraphQL, gRPC-based service communication**
- Deep experience with Azure / AWS / GCP (GCP preferred)
- Strong experience designing:
- **Service-to-service authentication and authorization**
- **API gateway patterns (Apigee, Kong, Azure APIM, etc.)**
- **Event-driven architectures (Kafka, Pulsar, RabbitMQ)**
- Design for **high scalability, resiliency, and fault tolerance**
- Circuit breakers, retries, distributed tracing, observability
- Experience with **containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes, service mesh like Istio/Linkerd)**
- Lead end-to-end Architecture, design, development, testing, deployment, and support
- Build highly secure and maintainable systems with: Advanced **code quality practices, SAST/DAST, threat modelling**
- Define and implement-**CI/CD pipelines**, automation frameworks, and release governance
- Provide **technical leadership** across IAM, security, and platform teams
- **AI Agent Identity & Guardrails Engineering**
- Design and implement **Agent Identity Frameworks**:
- Unique identity, credentialing, and authentication for AI agents using SPIFFE standard.
- Lifecycle controls (creation, delegation, revocation)
- Build **AI Guardrails and Governance layers**:
- Policy-based access control for AI decisioning
- Context-aware authorization and dynamic policy evaluation
- AI activity **auditability, traceability, and explainability**
- Implement:
- **Authorization policies for autonomous agents interacting with APIs and enterprise systems**
- **Risk-based access controls** and anomaly detection signals
- Integrate **identity with AI platforms / LLM ecosystems**
- Secure plugin/tool access
- Controlled execution environments
- **Leadership & Collaboration**
- Provide **technical leadership and mentorship** to engineering teams
- Collaborate with **enterprise architects, security teams, product owners, and operations**
- Drive alignment between **business goals and technology solutions**
