Job Description

About Product VyOS is an open-source network operating system that provides an all-in-one platform for network management. Built on Linux, VyOS integrates powerful routing, firewall, VPN, and network services into a unified system. Unlike traditional networking hardware, VyOS can be deployed on a wide range of platforms, from physical routers and cloud environments to virtual machines, giving users flexibility and control over their network infrastructure. The key strength of VyOS lies in its comprehensive feature set. It supports dynamic routing protocols (BGP, OSPF, RIP), multiple VPN types (IPsec, OpenVPN, WireGuard), firewall rules, traffic shaping, and more - all configured through a unified command-line interface (CLI) familiar to network engineers. Its ability to scale across various environments makes it popular with organizations seeking open-source networking solutions. Job description The Network Support Engineer is responsible for developing, validating, and optimizing VyOS networking solutions to ensure performance, stability, and usability. This role involves designing Proof of Concept (PoC) scenarios, testing new features, troubleshooting complex issues, and maintaining technical documentation. The Network Engineer will work closely with developers, support teams, and external partners to enhance VyOS compatibility and functionality across diverse network environments. Responsibilities - Develop new features and optimize existing code for VyOS, ensuring efficient and maintainable implementations. - Collaborate with developers to review and validate code changes, test feature implementations, and provide feedback on bugs, optimizations, and feature proposals. - Create technical content, including solution briefs, datasheets, and graphical materials, tailored to address specific networking use cases and technical requirements. - Design, deploy, and configure network infrastructures using VyOS and other networking equipment to meet project objectives and performance standards. - Design and deploy PoC scenarios using VyOS, documenting configuration setups, performance benchmarks, and solution viability for customer-specific requirements. - Diagnose and resolve network performance, security, and connectivity issues, utilizing advanced debugging and analysis tools. - Investigate escalated technical issues, conduct root cause analysis, and deliver reproducible solutions or detailed technical reports for development resolution. - Conduct functional, performance, and regression testing for VyOS features and fixes, creating and maintaining detailed test documentation. - Develop and manage automated test frameworks for repetitive test cases, enhancing testing accuracy and efficiency. - Enhance testing methodologies by introducing advanced tools and frameworks to optimize validation processes and outcomes. - Conduct interoperability testing with third-party systems to ensure seamless integration of VyOS into diverse networking environments. - Maintain a centralized knowledge base with detailed, technically accurate articles and solution documentation to support internal and external stakeholders. Requirements Skills - Strong understanding of networking protocols such as BGP, OSPF, VPNs, and firewalls. - Hands-on experience with VyOS or other open-source networking platforms. - Proficiency in scripting languages like Python or Bash for automation and testing. - Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities in complex network environments. - Experience with network performance tuning and security best practices. - Familiarity with software-defined networking (SDN) and cloud networking principles. - Ability to develop and execute test cases for network functionality and performance. - Excellent written and verbal communication skills for technical documentation and collaboration. - Strong ability to analyze packet captures, system logs, and debugging outputs. Experience - Minimum 5 years of experience in networking, system administration, or network security. - Experience working with VyOS, open-source network operating systems, or enterprise-grade networking solutions. - Prior experience in feature validation, troubleshooting, and debugging network-related issues. - Hands-on experience with virtualization platforms (VMware, KVM, Hyper-V) and cloud networking (AWS, GCP, Azure). - Experience conducting Proof of Concept (PoC) demonstrations and documenting technical findings. - Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and automated testing frameworks for networking products.
