Job Description
### Your mission
About the role
Moonwatt designs and builds battery energy storage systems. We're growing our engineering team to support certification and production of our next generation of products, and the Applications Engineer will play a central role in validating, documenting, and qualifying our hardware and systems as we bring them to market, bridging product development and customer applications, with room to grow scope and ownership over time.
## What you'll do
Hardware, Validation & Compliance
- Source, test, qualify and dimension components for BMS electronics, power electronics, and electrical systems (connectors, fuses, contactors, breakers, cables).
- Design and validate wiring harnesses and enclosures, and evaluate and integrate equipment such as DC-DC converters and inverters.
- Lead compliance research related to UL, IEC and other applicable standards.
Applications, Systems Engineering & Product Validation
- Research compliance requirements and safety functions, and write functional requirements for BMS and site controller applications.
- Test and validate system functionality in the field and on prototypes.
- Bridge hardware, firmware, and software teams on system capabilities, limitations, and trade-offs.
- Own systems engineering calculations for usable energy, operating windows, and power limitations across cell technologies and power conversion architectures.
Customer Applications & Deployments
- Act as the technical interface between Sales and R&D, translating customer requirements into engineering requirements.
- Support technical discussions with customers, grid operators, and partners.
- Own smaller pilot projects, custom deployments, and field validation activities.
As our deployment footprint grows, this role will also link R&D and Service Engineering, feeding field issues back into product improvement.
### Your profile
- Strong electrical engineering background.
- 3–5 years of experience in power systems and project/product design, ready to own individual work streams (e.g., component testing, harness design, functional requirements) with growing autonomy.
- 10+ years is also welcome, for candidates who can own significant parts of the scope end-to-end — for example, managing a key power-conversion supplier relationship from procurement through integration and testing.
- Hands-on experience with electrical component selection, testing, and qualification (power electronics, BMS, or similar systems).
- Exposure to compliance and certification processes (UL or IEC) is a strong plus.
- Comfort working across hardware, firmware, and software boundaries, and translating between technical and customer-facing conversations.
- Willingness to support field validation, pilot deployments, and occasional customer-facing travel.
### Why us?
- Be part of a fast-growing startup delivering next-generation clean energy technology.
- Work on high-impact projects alongside experienced engineers across the EU.
- Competitive salary, benefits, and opportunities for growth in the energy tech sector.
WE PARTICULARLY ENCOURAGE WOMEN AND INDIVIDUALS FROM UNDERREPRESENTED BACKGROUNDS TO APPLY EVEN IF YOU DON'T MEET 100% OF THE LISTED QUALIFICATIONS. POTENTIAL AND MOTIVATION MATTERS AS MUCH AS EXPERIENCE.
