Preferred qualifications: Master's or PhD degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, or a related field. Experience supporting process validation studies and proof-of-concept display system builds, and working closely with external partners to support technology deployment and product development using computer-aided design tools (e.g., NX, Creo, or Solidworks). Experience shipping multiple consumer products and with manufacturing methods used in consumer products. Experience collaborating with suppliers on part manufacturing and final assembly, including onsite factory support. Experience with electro-mechanical components (audio, display, antenna, etc.), waterproofing, thermals, grounding, or product development lead tolerance analysis, gauge R&R activities supporting product scalability.

Responsibilities Design complex subsystems or multiple individual parts from concept to production, including fixtures to enable automation of high precision assembly processes. Collaborate with suppliers of subsystems and/or individual parts throughout the design and manufacturing process. Drive end-to-end discussions on system assembly process down-selection, prototyping, equipment and tooling needs for high precision assembly meeting mechanical, optical and reliability requirements. Identify the root cause of design, manufacturing, or reliability issues and develop corrective actions. Travel to developing builds to oversee mechanical validation, design, and assembly (10-20%). Balance design considerations such as functionality, sustainability, reliability, human factors, manufacturability, and aesthetics. Collaborate with Joint Development Manufacturing (JDM) teams supporting part design. Design for technical depth and innovative ideas. Solve issues associated with the product development path using creativity and smart designs.
