The Project Engineer is responsible for the technical execution and successful delivery of municipal water and wastewater projects from concept through commissioning. Acting as a bridge between engineering design and project implementation, this role combines technical expertise with project coordination skills to ensure that systems are designed, built, and installed to meet performance, safety, and quality standards. The Project Engineer will collaborate closely with process engineers, project managers, manufacturing teams, and external partners to bring engineered solutions to life.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Translate process designs and conceptual layouts into detailed engineering plans, technical specifications, and equipment requirements.
- Support P&ID development, equipment selection, and system integration efforts in alignment with project goals.
- Review and validate process flow diagrams, design calculations, and system performance criteria with process engineering.
- Coordinate with vendors and fabrication teams to ensure components meet design and quality requirements.
- Assist with piloting programs, system testing, and startup commissioning, including on-site support when required.
- Support the project manager in planning, scheduling, and executing project deliverables within defined scope, schedule, and budget.
- Manage engineering documentation, drawings, and submittals to ensure completeness, accuracy, and timely delivery.
- Participate in project meetings, providing technical updates and resolving engineering challenges.
Interface with cross-functional teams (sales, procurement, manufacturing, field service) to ensure seamless handoffs throughout the project lifecycle.
- Assist with cost estimating and technical input during proposal and pre-sales activities.
- Ensure all designs and installations comply with industry standards, safety regulations, and client specifications.
- Support the development of operational and safety procedures for new and existing systems.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, focusing on process optimization, standardization, and cost-effectiveness.
- Accountable for adhering to the Fluence EHS policy.
Other tasks as assigned by the direct manager.
CORE COMPETENCIES:
- Technical Expertise: Strong understanding of mechanical, civil, or chemical engineering principles as applied to water/wastewater systems.

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, civil, or chemical engineering or a related discipline.
- Minimum 5 years of engineering experience in water/wastewater treatment, manufacturing, or a related industry.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD (2D) and SolidWorks, Inventor, or similar 3D modeling software.
- Experience with automation of 3D CAD
Familiarity with process modeling software (e.g., BioWin).
- Demonstrated experience executing engineering deliverables within project constraints.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as needed to support project execution and commissioning.
