Job Description
Salmon is a technology-driven financial company building a banking and lending platform across Southeast Asia, starting in the Philippines.
7M+ app downloads. 2M+ monthly active users. 7000+ partner stores. US$350M+ raised from top-tier investors.
Here, you get real ownership from day one, high standards, and direct communication. You'll work alongside a team that combines deep local knowledge and experience scaling regulated financial companies from scratch.
If you want to solve complex problems at scale and directly impact how millions of people access and manage money, come build with us.
Southeast Asia's fintech moment starts here.
About the role
You'll join the Python Development team to design new services from the ground up, expanding senior engineering capacity so Salmon can launch strategically important new service lines.
What you'll do
- Design and build new backend services in a microservice, event-driven environment, with reliability as the primary constraint.
- Coordinate architecture and integrations across the Core and RBB teams to keep cross-team delivery consistent.
- Lead delivery of a major new service line — for example collections or cross-matching graphs — as business priorities take shape.
What you'll own
- Own key components in the existing architecture and establish technical leadership in new service domains.
- Design service architecture and choose communication patterns between services.
- Instrument services with metrics for monitoring and alerting, and cover them with unit tests.
- Identify and resolve technical debt and architectural bottlenecks.
- Build and maintain shared libraries and tooling for recurring tasks, and reduce the team's dependency on core developers for scaling work.
- Explore and adopt new instruments, and bring your own vision to how we build.
What makes you a strong fit
- 3+ years of production experience as a Python backend developer.
- Strong Python: typing, testing, packaging, asyncio, threading, multiprocessing.
- Production experience with microservice architecture.
- Familiarity with event-driven systems (e.g. Kafka).
- Experience with Docker and Kubernetes, preferably on AWS EKS.
- A plus if you also bring AWS and Terraform, domain-driven design, a statically typed compiled language, hands-on work in finance, antifraud or risk, or exposure to graph databases and graph-based data models.
