Job Description
# Your mission
As a Senior Flutter Developer / Client Engineer, you will be a key member of the Flutter team, developing, deploying, maintaining, and contributing to high-value products within Bliq.
You will work on Bliq’s driver, passenger, and operator-facing applications, helping us build polished, reliable, and high-performance client experiences for mobility, ride, vehicle monitoring, and driving-assistance use cases.
This role is centered on Flutter and Dart, but it is not a pure UI role. Our client stack combines Flutter on the product surface with native and background capabilities, including Rust-backed components for performance-critical, hardware-adjacent, or real-time functionality.
You will help shape the next generation of Bliq client applications, bringing together clean architecture, responsive user experiences, real-time data, AI-assisted engineering habits, and strong cross-platform development practices.
## In particular, you will:
- Implement cutting-edge features in Bliq apps for drivers, passengers, and operators according to customer requirements and the product roadmap.
- Develop, deploy, and maintain core elements of the Bliq Ride mobile app technology stack.
- Build and maintain Flutter applications for real-time vehicle operation, monitoring, and driving-assistance visualization.
- Develop operator-facing UI for camera views, HUD surfaces, diagnostics, control state, and driving-assistance overlays.
- Integrate live telemetry, control state, video/streaming data, diagnostics, and other real-time signals into responsive product experiences.
- Work on hybrid client solutions where Flutter drives the UI and native or Rust components handle background, performance-critical, or hardware-adjacent functionality.
- Collaborate with backend, vehicle, native, and product engineers on data contracts, telemetry flows, client behavior, and product requirements.
- Help drive key technological decisions around frameworks, system architecture, requirements, and client-side performance.
- Write clean, testable, maintainable code and help spread this engineering culture throughout the company.
- Improve performance, reliability, observability, usability, and correctness in safety-sensitive and data-dense product areas.
- Improve our CI/CD workflows and development automation.
- Mentor junior developers and share better development practices across the team.
- Use AI tools effectively during day-to-day development for debugging, refactoring, architecture exploration, test generation, code comprehension, and delivery acceleration.
# Your profile
You are passionate about Flutter development, clean code, technical problem-solving, and building successful products in an early-stage company environment. You are hands-on, detail-oriented, collaborative, and comfortable deeply involving yourself in every aspect of product development.
You are strong on the client side, excited about building polished product experiences, and comfortable working across the boundary between Flutter UX and lower-level native integrations. You do not treat native or Rust-backed components as a black box; you are willing to understand and contribute across that boundary when needed.
You have:
- 5+ years of experience in mobile or client-side development.
- 3+ years of professional experience with Flutter and Dart.
- A deep understanding of mobile operating systems and cross-platform client development.
- Experience building complex mobile, desktop, or cross-platform applications.
- Experience with Firebase, including Firestore, Crashlytics, Messaging, Remote Config, or related services.
- Experience writing native iOS code in Swift and native Android code in Kotlin.
- Solid understanding of reactive programming, streams, async systems, and event-driven UI.
- Experience working with hybrid architectures that combine high-level UI frameworks with native modules, plugins, or background services.
- Awareness of and appreciation for Clean Architecture and maintainable software design.
- Experience writing clean, testable code and reviewing code with high engineering standards.
- Excellent communication skills in English, our main working language at Bliq.
- A collaborative mindset and the ability to thrive in a team-oriented environment.
- A self-motivated attitude, strong ownership, and good attention to detail.
- A degree in Computer Science or equivalent demonstrable experience, for example through professional work, open-source contributions, or substantial technical projects.
## AI-assisted engineering
We are looking for someone who already uses AI as a serious development tool, not just for trivial code generation.
You should have:
- Practical experience using AI tools during everyday software development.
- Good prompting and iteration habits for debugging, refactoring, architecture exploration, testing, and code comprehension.
- The ability to give AI tools the right context, break down problems clearly, validate results, and avoid low-quality or unsafe suggestions.
- A disciplined approach to reviewing AI-generated code so that AI accelerates delivery without lowering engineering standards.
## Preferably, you also have:
- Experience with Flutter desktop on Windows or Linux.
- Experience with FFI, native plugins, platform channels, or embedding Rust into app workflows.
- Strong interest in Rust and enthusiasm for Rust-backed client components.
- Familiarity with gRPC, Protocol Buffers, and real-time telemetry systems.
- Experience with video-heavy interfaces, streaming systems, or control-oriented software.
- Background in automotive, robotics, autonomous vehicles, simulation, remote operation, or hardware-adjacent products.
- Experience improving CI/CD pipelines, release workflows, automated testing, and developer tooling.
# Why us?
You will join Bliq at a stage where your technical decisions, engineering habits, and product sense can have a direct impact on the direction of our applications and client architecture.
This is a role for someone who enjoys Flutter, cares about polished user experiences, thinks deeply about architecture, and is excited by the challenge of building reliable real-time products across mobile, desktop, native, and Rust-backed layers.
- Work directly with the founders on the company’s most important decisions and problems
- Help build and launch real driverless vehicles, not another incremental software product
- Take ownership of projects that would normally require years of seniority
- See the direct consequences of your work in the company, the product, and vehicles on public roads
- Join at a stage where one exceptional person can materially change the trajectory of the business
- High standards, fast decisions, direct feedback, and very little tolerance for politics or bureaucracy
- Significant room to grow into a senior operating or leadership position based on performance
- Competitive salary and meaningful equity for exceptional people
- Based in Berlin, building globally relevant technology
### Tips for a successful application
- Read the job description carefully. Do not send a generic application. You would only be wasting your time and ours.
- Share relevant work samples. They matter more to us than a polished CV.
- Briefly explain what you bring to the table. How will your skills create value for the company? How will you make the team stronger?
- Do not let AI speak for you. We receive thousands of applications, and many of them are written by AI. They all sound the same. Use AI to polish your language or correct your grammar, but do the thinking yourself.
