We are now seeking a Senior Staff Accountant to work at our Corporate Office located in South San Jose. The Senior Accountant is responsible for supporting the credit union's financial reporting, general ledger accounting, account reconciliations, and month-end close processes. This role ensures the accuracy and integrity of financial records, compliance with GAAP, NCUA regulations, and internal policies, and assists with audits, budgeting, and financial analysis. This position partners with cross-functional teams to identify process improvements, maintain strong internal controls, and provide financial insights that support the credit union's strategic objectives and commitment to member service.
Qualifications:
- Three to five years of similar or related experience
- (1) A bachelor's degree, or (2) achievement of formal certifications recognized in the industry as equivalent to a bachelor's degree (e.g., accounting certifications in lieu of a degree).
- Work effectively in a high-volume and fast-paced environment while managing multiple tasks simultaneously and accurately
- Have strong communication skills and successful experience with inter-departmental teamwork.
- Advanced proficiency in Excel.
- Experience in a credit union or community banking preferred.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
- Maintain the accuracy and integrity of the Credit Union's general ledger, accounting records, and financial reporting processes.
- Prepare and post journal entries, perform account reconciliations, and complete month-end close activities.
- Reconcile, monitor, and maintain key general ledger accounts; research, analyze, and resolve variances and balancing discrepancies. Monitor liquidity levels and support effective cash management activities.
- Reconcile, monitor, and maintain investment portfolio accounting records and related accounts.
- Prepare monthly financial statements, board reports, and other management reports.
- Prepare and submit regulatory and tax filings, including the quarterly NCUA Call Report (Form 5300), ensuring compliance with applicable requirements.
- Assist in the development, implementation, and review of Accounting Department policies and procedures to ensure compliance with GAAP, regulatory standards, and internal controls.
- Provide accounting guidance and support to departments by interpreting financial transactions, reports, and accounting requirements.
- Provide professional, knowledgeable service to members and employees and may assist with training, work direction, and coordination of accounting staff activities.
