Role Summary The Senior Accountant is responsible for supporting the financial close process, managing fixed assets accounting, performing accruals and reconciliations, and ensuring compliance with internal controls and regulatory requirements. This role plays a key part in enhancing operational efficiency through process improvements and leveraging AI-driven tools and automation where appropriate. The Senior Accountant partners cross-functionally and provide mentorship to junior team members while supporting audit and special project initiatives. Essential Duties and Responsibilities - Participation in financial close process by preparing & reviewing journal entries and analyzing results. - Identify opportunities to leverage automation, AI tools, and data analytics to improve workflows and reporting accuracy. - Manage fixed asset lifecycle including capitalization, depreciation, transfers, and disposals. - Maintain fixed asset subledger and ensure proper reconciliation to the general ledger. - Review capital expenditures for appropriate accounting treatment. - Perform account reconciliations to verify accuracy and completeness. - Analyze business processes for effectiveness, efficiency, and compliance with corporate policy/procedures, as well as state and federal regulatory authorities. - Analyze internal accounting controls and policies and implement changes and process improvements as needed. - Provide support to senior level management on special projects as assigned. - Support external and internal audit function to ensure successful audit results and compliance. - Train and mentor junior staff. Minimum Qualifications - 7+ years’ experience in accounting, financial reporting, and/or auditing. - Bachelor's degree, concentration in accounting preferred. - Experience with US GAAP Accounting. - Strong experience with fixed assets, accruals, and full-cycle close - Experience applying AI, automation, or data analytics to improve accounting efficiency, reduce manual tasks, and enhance financial insights - Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills - Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite. The base pay range for this position is the range National Life reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for the position taking into account the wide variety of factors, including: prior experience and job-related knowledge; education, training and certificates; current business needs; and market factors. The final salary or hourly wages offered may be outside of this range based on other reasons and individual circumstances. Additional Compensation and Benefits. The total compensation package for this position may also include a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. The successful candidate may also be eligible to participate in National Life’s discretionary annual incentive programs, subject to the rules governing such programs. If hired, the employee will be in an "at-will position" and National Life reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation or benefit program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
