Summary
The Senior Field Engineer is responsible for performing outage and commissioning oversight, power plant technical support and assessments as well as providing project management oversight and planning support for assigned projects. Outage management and field commissioning oversight are the primary responsibilities for this position.
Primary Duties
- Plan, schedule, and manage outages.
- Provide commissioning oversight, management, and direction.
- Analyze plant and fleet O&M performance data and recommend maintenance and improvement opportunities. Coordinate with plant management to recommend capital improvements, technologies, and processes to plant management and owners. Provide technical direction as needed to implement these improvements.
- Lead complex client engagements, while maintaining a high degree of customer satisfaction. Display commercial acumen that supports department and customer goals.
- Lead and conduct technical analysis of operational and maintenance performance utilizing diagnostic data, maintenance history, and financial records. Communicate abnormal conditions, lead root cause investigations, recommend effective corrective actions and identify potential cost savings. Trouble shoot plant performance issues.
- Oversee plant reliability and plant betterment exercises including reliability centered maintenance (RCM), single point of failure (SPOF), predictive maintenance, preventive maintenance, computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) change implementation, and critical spare part analysis and improvements.
- Provide management and oversight for plant projects and temporary staffing needs as required.
Scope of Responsibilities
This position directly coordinates with plants to support outage management, commissioning, and project planning. Duties are performed independently under general direction with minimal supervision and in many cases the site visits are in response to units that have experienced significant events or damage. Decisions are made within prescribed O&M procedures and guidelines. Contacts and work scope decisions are usually made on own initiative concerning high complexity technical matters requiring explanation, discussion, interpretation, and approvals. Understanding of industry best practice regarding repair protocols, commissioning practices, superalloys, general instrumentation & control, gas turbine function, and steam turbine function are generally required.
Working Relationships
The Sr. Field Engineer reports to the Director of Asset Optimization and works independently with NAES and non-NAES plants as needed to support their outage, project management, and commissioning needs.
Compensation
The initial compensation will range from $167,900 to $193,100
Education and Experience
- Bachelor of Science Degree in an engineering discipline is desired but not required.
- A minimum of 20 years combined of experience in power plant maintenance, field engineering experience with gas and steam turbines, and field commissioning of power plants.
- A minimum of 15 years combined experience as a field engineer and/or commissioning engineer with gas turbines and steam turbines.
- Operations and maintenance experience with gas turbines, steam turbines, large power boilers, commissioning, maintenance planning, construction, and start up of power plants.
- Experience with MS Project and P6 preferred.
- Experience with power plant and/or outage and overhaul budgets, budget cycle processes, and change orders.
Specific Skills and Knowledge
Must have outage planning and project management experience. Must have demonstrated capability to consult with power plant clients in most of the following areas: Plant reliability, maintenance engineering, outage management, design engineering, thermal performance modeling, and operations & maintenance program assessment. Strong abilities to communicate both orally and in writing, strong word processing and reporting skills, strong spreadsheet skills, project scheduling software (MS Project or P6), and performance monitoring software skills are required.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
Normal working hours are 8:00a.m. to 5:00p.m. Monday through Friday. Extensive travel may be required to meet client or project requirements. Work is performed on industrial sites when traveling, requiring protective clothing and equipment. Extended hours may be required during travel or due to project phasing and project specific requirements.
Fit for Duty
All employees will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program. This program includes a post-offer physical examination and drug screening and post-employment random drug screening. There are extensive smoking restrictions in and around the facility.
