Job Description
Who we are
[Lab37 Robotics](https://www.lab37.us/), is a technology company focused on the development and deployment of robots designed specifically for direct-to-customer food production. Our mission is to revolutionize the food industry by creating innovative robotic solutions that enhance efficiency, quality, and customer satisfaction. We are passionate about pushing the boundaries of technology to deliver cutting-edge products that meet the evolving needs of our clients.
About the Role
Build the software platform that connects kitchen teams, cloud services, and robotic production systems. As a Staff Full-Stack Software Engineer, you will own significant product and technical areas from definition through production. You will work across frontend, backend, cloud infrastructure, integrations, and robot-adjacent interfaces. You will partner closely with product, culinary, operations, robotics, firmware and mechanical teams to turn ambiguous operational problems into reliable software.
We are looking for someone who remains deeply hands-on while providing technical leadership like shaping architecture, raising engineering quality, mentoring others, and helping the Los Angeles team scale.
What you'll do
- Own and deliver complex full-stack initiatives spanning user interfaces, backend services, cloud infrastructure, and external integrations.
- Lead technical design and architecture for new capabilities, balancing speed, reliability, maintainability, and operational simplicity.
- Partner directly with product, culinary, and operations teams to understand workflows, clarify requirements, and define pragmatic solutions.
- Build software for configuring, observing, and managing kitchen operations, including order intake, menus, recipes, tasks, alerts, and performance visibility.
- Integrate with delivery and commerce platforms to receive orders, synchronize menus, and communicate order state.
- Create and integrate operator-facing and robot-adjacent interfaces used in physical production environments.
- Work alongside with firmware and robotics engineers to ensure cohesive system functionality
- Own projects through rollout and production support, including testing, observability, incident diagnosis, and iterative improvement.
- Set a strong example through design reviews, code reviews, technical documentation, and thoughtful engineering tradeoffs.
- Mentor engineers, improve development practices, and help establish the technical culture and standards of the Los Angeles team.
- Contribute to hiring and technical calibration as the team grows.
What we are looking for
- 10+ years of strong software engineering experience, including ownership of complex systems or initiatives across multiple components.
- Demonstrated ability to lead technical design and execution in ambiguous, fast-moving environments.
- Deep experience in at least one backend language; Go experience is valuable but not required.
- Strong frontend engineering skills with modern TypeScript frameworks; Vue experience is helpful but not required.
- Experience designing APIs, services, data models, and asynchronous or event-driven workflows.
- Strong product judgment and the ability to translate real operational problems into simple, usable software.
- A track record of improving architecture, reliability, testing, observability, or developer productivity.
- Clear written and verbal communication, including design documents, technical proposals, operational playbooks, and cross-functional alignment.
- Comfort working across boundaries and collaborating with both technical and non-technical partners.
- Ability to mentor other engineers and influence technical direction without relying on formal authority.
Nice To Have
- AWS services, distributed systems, databases, queues, and cross-region architectures.
- Docker, Kubernetes, Protobuf, Python, Terraform, Git, and continuous delivery systems.
- Simulation environments, mocked or simulated backend services, and integration testing.
- SQL, analytics platforms, operational dashboards, or data-intensive product development.
- Software that interacts with hardware, robotics, logistics, manufacturing, fulfillment, or other physical operations.
- Building internal tools or operational software used in high-availability, real-time environments.
What Makes This Opportunity Different
High ownership: Own meaningful product and technical areas rather than a narrow component.
Real-world impact: Your software directly affects physical production and daily kitchen operations.
Technical leadership: Shape architecture, engineering standards, mentorship, and future team growth.
Cross-disciplinary work: Collaborate with robotics, hardware, culinary, operations, and product teams.
Why join us
- Demand for online food delivery is growing really fast! In the last 5 years, just in the US, the overall market has expanded 10X from $10B to $100B, and could expand to $500bn- $1T by 2030.
- Changing the restaurant industry: You’ll be part of a team that helps restaurants succeed in online food delivery.
- Collaborative environment: You will receive support and guidance from experienced colleagues and managers, helping you to learn, grow and achieve your goals, and you’ll work closely with other teams to ensure our customer’s success.
