Job Description

### About us Pomelo Care is the leading virtual medical practice for women and children, providing care across pregnancy, postpartum, pediatrics, menopause, and perimenopause. We combine proactive, 24/7 clinical care with technology that helps us reach patients earlier, identify risks sooner, and deliver personalized care throughout their journey. Our team includes clinicians, technologists, operators, and problem-solvers working together to make high-quality care more accessible for families nationwide. ## About The Role Your north star: You'll serve as the technical lead for how patients interact with Pomelo from the moment they enroll through their entire care journey. We can only meaningfully improve health outcomes if patients are highly engaged in their care and trust our team. The earlier we can start providing care, the more likely we can affect outcomes. That all starts with the patient experience: building features that check in with patients throughout their journey, provide them the best next step for their care, triage their urgent needs, make it simple to get high quality care, and help them feel supported. This role sits at the center of that mission. This role reports to a Senior Staff Engineering Manager and is open to any candidates located in the continental US. ## What you'll do: - Lead the technical direction for our mobile development strategy and patient-facing apps, shaping how tens of thousands of patients experience Pomelo - Rapidly prototype and ship features in our patient mobile and web apps alongside design and product, using AI tools to move fast and test ideas that meaningfully improve engagement and retention - Help steer product direction for how we support and retain patients in their critical first month with Pomelo, when the window to affect outcomes is widest - Talk directly to patients and partner with product, design, and clinical teams to turn real needs into real features - Mentor and grow junior engineers, raising the bar for the whole team - Set the technical standards, architecture patterns, and development practices that our patient-facing products are built on #### Problems You'll Dig Into - How do we get patients proactively engaged in their own care? - How do we personalize the patient experience to specific needs and interests while meaningfully moving outcomes? - How do we build habits so that patients check in with us first when problems come up during their pregnancy? - How do we keep patients engaged without always requiring direct clinical intervention? #### Tech Stack - Expo + React Native, React, TypeScript, Kotlin, SQL ## Who you are: - You have deep experience building and shipping consumer or patient-facing products, whether mobile, web, or both - You've served as a technical lead on a team, setting architecture direction and mentoring other engineers - You have strong opinions, loosely held, about how to build great user experiences - You're comfortable working across the full stack and moving quickly in a startup environment - You're keeping up with trends in LLM coding agents to multiply your engineering impact - You enjoy collaborating closely with product and design, not just executing on specs We'll be especially excited if you: - Have experience with React Native or cross-platform mobile frameworks - Have experience building products in healthcare, wellness, or other high-trust consumer domains - Have worked on engagement, retention, or onboarding flows and understand what makes users stick around - Have prior experience with AI/ML or building agent-based systems ## Why you should join our team By joining Pomelo, you will get in on the ground floor of a fast-moving, well-funded, and mission-driven startup that always puts the patient first. You will learn, grow and be challenged, and have fun with your team while doing it. We strive to create an environment where employees from all backgrounds are respected. We value working across disciplines, moving fast, data-driven decision making, learning, and always putting the patient first. ### Benefits and Perks: - Comprehensive Health, Dental, and Vision coverage for employees and their families - High deductible Health Plans with Health Savings Account (HSA) options - Flexible Spending Account (FSA) - Equity grant participation - 401(k) program - Competitive vacation policy - 16 weeks paid parental leave - Fully remote work flexibility (within the US) The expected base salary range offered for this role is $220,000 - $260,000. This role is also eligible for equity, giving you an ownership stake in Pomelo’s mission. Actual compensation may vary based on relevant experience, skills, competencies, and certifications. At Pomelo, we are committed to hiring the best team to improve outcomes for all mothers and babies, regardless of their background. We need diverse perspectives to reflect the diversity of problems we face and the population we serve. We look to hire people from a variety of backgrounds, including but not limited to race, age, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, national origin, religion, disability, and veteran status. #LI-Remote ### Potential Fraud Warning Please be cautious of potential recruitment fraud. With the increase of remote work and digital hiring, phishing and job scams are on the rise with malicious actors impersonating real employees and sending fake job offers in an effort to collect personal or financial information. Pomelo Care will never ask you to pay a fee or download software as part of the interview process with our company. Pomelo Care will also never ask for your personal banking or other financial information until after you have signed an offer of employment and completed onboarding paperwork that is provided by our People Operations team. All official communication with Pomelo Care People Operations team will come from domain email addresses ending in @pomelocare.com. If you receive a message that seems suspicious, we encourage you to pause communication and contact us directly at careers@pomelocare.com to confirm its legitimacy. For your safety, we also recommend applying only through our official [Careers](https://www.pomelocare.com/careers) page.
