The Role
Kyndryl is seeking an experienced Database Migration Engineer with specialized expertise in IBM DB2 and Amazon Web Services (AWS) Relational Database Service (RDS) to support a strategic AI-driven modernization program. The successful candidate will play a critical role in planning, designing, and executing database migration activities, ensuring seamless transition to the target state DB2 RDS on AWS environment while maintaining data integrity, performance, and security standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead end-to-end DB2-to-AWS RDS migration activities, including assessment, planning, execution, validation, and cutover.
- Perform schema conversion, data migration, and performance optimization to ensure successful deployments.
- Configure and manage AWS RDS environments, including security, backup/recovery, and high-availability settings.
- Collaborate with application and integration teams to ensure seamless system compatibility.
- Develop migration runbooks, rollback plans, and technical documentation while ensuring compliance with security and governance standards.
- Support UAT, production deployments, and post-migration issue resolution.

Required Technical and Professional Skills:
- Deep expertise in DB2 database administration, including schema design, performance tuning, and troubleshooting
- Proficiency with AWS services including RDS, EC2, S3, IAM, VPC, and CloudWatch
- Experience with AWS Database Migration Service (DMS) for data migration and replication
- Strong understanding of ETL processes, data mapping, and schema conversion techniques
- Familiarity with AWS Schema Conversion Tool (SCT) where applicable
- Experience working within CI/CD pipelines and DevOps environments (Azure DevOps preferred)
- Solid understanding of database security practices including encryption, access control, and secrets management
- Experience with backup, restore, and disaster recovery configurations in AWS RDS
- Strong proficiency in SQL and DB2-specific scripting
- Ability to work across multiple environments (DEV, UAT/Staging, Production) with a structured, process-driven approach
Experience:
- 8 or more years of experience in database engineering, with a strong focus on IBM DB2
- Proven hands-on experience migrating databases to AWS RDS environments
