Job Description
Want to bring ideas to life?
You’re in the right place. Aurecon is a leading design, engineering and advisory company - but why should you choose to join us? Every project Aurecon delivers leaves a legacy. Every decision we make embeds sustainability, innovation, and technical excellence at the forefront. If you’re looking to step into a role where you can shape projects, mentor teams and build capability - this is your opportunity to do just that. It comes down to one crucial question: What kind of world do you want to create?
How will your ideas contribute to shaping what’s next?
We’re growing our Water team in Melbourne and are looking for a Lead Mechanical Engineer to play a key role in delivering major infrastructure projects and building our mechanical capability.
This is more than a delivery role — it’s an opportunity to:
- Step into a technical leadership position
- Mentor and uplift junior engineers
- Influence how we grow and shape our team capability
- Work across a national network, not just a single office
You’ll be joining a team with a strong pipeline across water, energy, and major infrastructure sectors, with exciting bids and projects already in motion.
### Here are the key things you will do to ‘bring ideas to life’:
- Lead the mechanical design and delivery of water infrastructure projects
- Provide technical oversight across pumps, valves, pipelines and treatment assets
- Support projects across the full lifecycle — from concept design through to detailed design and Design & Construct delivery
- Mentor and develop junior and mid-level engineers
- Work closely with clients, building strong and trusted relationships
- Contribute to bids, proposals and business development
- Collaborate across interstate teams (VIC, SA, QLD, WA) to deliver integrated solutions
- Drive technical excellence and continuously improve delivery standards
What we’re looking for:
We’re looking for someone ready to step into a true lead role - combining technical expertise with leadership. You’ll bring:
- 8+ years’ experience in mechanical engineering
- Strong background in water infrastructure
- Pumps, valves and mechanical systems
- Treatment and supply infrastructure
- Experience in a consulting or project delivery environment
- Proven ability to lead or mentor engineers
- Experience working on multidisciplinary projects
Registrations & experience
- Chartered Engineer (CPEng) / RPEV
- RPEQ highly regarded
- Established client networks or industry relationships beneficial
How will your future be shaped by us?
Joining Aurecon means you’ll be at the award‑winning edge of innovation and sustainability. We’ve been recognised for:
- Innovation and design excellence
- Industry-leading sustainability outcomes
- Inclusive and flexible workplace culture
Here, you can:
- Bring your whole self to work
- Work in a flexible, hybrid environment
- Grow through structured learning, leadership and accreditation pathways
- Access benefits including parental leave, wellbeing support and flexible public holidays
Who is Aurecon?
Aurecon’s strength has always been our people. It’s our people who build our shared purpose and bring ideas to life. It’s our people who imagine and co-create with our clients a better future for people and the planet. Of course, you’ll probably know lots of our award-winning projects. The new Allianz Stadium in Sydney? That was us. Tāmaki Regeneration in Auckland? That was us too. And the Tseung Kwan O Interchange in Hong Kong? You guessed it, us. So, when you join us, you’ll be joining a community working together to tackle some of the world’s most complex challenges.
