## **Our Story**
Pointr is the market leader in Indoor Mapping, Location, and Analytics, and the inventor of AI-based map production. Its innovative (20+ patents) Pointr Maps™ platform is used by millions of users across offices, retail locations, airports, hospitals, and more every month.
As the top choice of Fortune 100 customers and billions of sqft. deployed globally (30+ countries), Pointr is always on the lookout for great team members to support its fast growth. Our core values are **Ownership**, **Harmony**, and **Scale**, and we look for Passionate, Kind, and No-Ego team members to join the team.
## **The Role**
Map Experience Designers are the visual and structural architects of how our users interact with indoor spaces. They are creative problem-solvers with strong systems thinking and a deep understanding of cartographic design, accessibility, and visual hierarchy.
At Pointr, we empower Map Experience Designers to own the end-to-end design of our maps, creating beautiful, highly readable, and intuitive spatial experiences for millions of users worldwide. To that end, they are comfortable operating in a flat, fast-paced organization and are energized by balancing aesthetics with complex technical constraints to shape the future of indoor mapping.
At its core, this role requires the Map Experience Designer to combine strong technical and cartographic acumen with deep user empathy, collaborating closely with rendering engineers and cross-functional squads to turn complex spatial data into seamless, accessible, and scalable visual solutions.
## **Core Responsibilities**
- Own the design of the map experience, with a focus on readability, accessibility, symbol design, and visual clarity for users of all ages.
- Design map symbols, icons, labels, POIs, route visuals, zoom-level behaviors, and visual hierarchy across the map.
- Work closely with map rendering engineers to create MapLibre-compatible design solutions.
- Improve the treatment of 3D buildings and map layers so the map is easier to understand.
- Create map-style guidelines, QA-implemented map designs, and document reusable rules for the rendering squad.
## **Minimum Qualifications**
- **Experience:** 5+ years of proven experience in product design, UX/UI, cartographic design, map design, GIS visualization, or spatial information design.
- **Portfolio:** A strong portfolio demonstrating expertise in map-based products, symbol design, visual hierarchy, readability, or complex data visualization.
- **Technical & Design Skills:** Deep understanding of cartographic design, symbol/icon design, color theory, contrast, typography, map readability, zoom-level behaviors, labels, layers, and POIs.
- **Concepts:** Solid understanding of MapLibre/Mapbox-style map concepts.
- **Core Competencies:** Strong systems thinking, close attention to detail, analytical thinking, and deep user empathy.
- **Collaboration:** Excellent communication skills with the ability to balance aesthetics and user experience against performance and technical constraints.
## **Preferred Qualifications**
- **Tools & Frameworks:** Hands-on experience with MapLibre, Mapbox GL, QGIS, ArcGIS, vector tiles, sprites, or glyphs.
- **Advanced Design:** Experience working with 3D buildings, indoor maps, and complex wayfinding systems.
- **Accessibility:** Strong background in designing for accessibility (e.g., color-blind-friendly designs or optimization for older users).
