Job Description
The team
IRRBB Squad is one of the four Amsterdam-based squads within the ALM model development team. We develop and maintain interest rate, valuation, and income models for the banking book scope, be it for ING’s target ALM system or the in-house Python-based simulation platform. We are a diverse group of six motivated individuals, and we collaborate closely with the ING Hubs ALM team based in Warsaw.
Roles and responsibilities
We are looking for a senior Engineering Model Developer who combines deep knowledge of ALM and IRRBB modelling with extensive experience in software engineering. This role serves as the leading technical expert within the squad, shaping the architecture, tooling, and engineering practices supporting both model development and production deployment. It is intended for an experienced ALM modeller who is equally passionate about engineering excellence and wishes to shape the technical future of ING's ALM modelling ecosystem.
Key responsibilities include:
- Define and drive the technical vision for ALM modelling platforms and tooling. This includes software architecture, engineering standards, CI/CD pipelines, cloud solutions, AI-assisted development, testing frameworks, and code quality practices
- Represent the ALM modelling squad in the evolution of the MApps platform, translating modelling needs into technical requirements and promoting the adoption of platform capabilities across our models
- Lead the design, development, and industrialisation of ALM and IRRBB models, ensuring scalable, maintainable, and production-ready implementations
- Coach and mentor other developers on engineering best practices, software design patterns, testing methodologies, and modern Python development
- Drive the adoption of new technologies and engineering capabilities that enhance modelling efficiency, quality, and scalability
In order to succeed the following requirements are a must:
- An MSc or PhD degree in a quantitative discipline such as Econometrics, Mathematics, Engineering, or Physics
- Extensive experience in professional software engineering and development of large-scale analytical platforms, beyond standalone model implementations or scripting solutions
- Expert-level Python development skills, including object-oriented design, testing frameworks, package management, performance optimisation, and CI/CD integration
- Proven track record of designing and maintaining production-grade quantitative applications
- Experience leading technical initiatives and influencing engineering decisions across teams
- Strong understanding of software architecture, DevOps practices, version control, automated testing, and deployment pipelines
- Proven experience in quantitative model development within a financial institution
- Experience as model developer or model owner of risk metrics models (e.g. EVE, NII, EC)
- Understanding of valuation concepts and methodologies in the context of IRRBB and CSRBB
Additionally, you should be:
- Proactive and analytical
- Strong communicator with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders
- Strong problem-solving skills and a delivery-focused mindset
- Passionate about software engineering innovation, including AI-assisted development, modern programming paradigms, and emerging technologies
- Able to bridge quantitative modelling and software engineering communities, translating business and modelling requirements into robust technical solutions
