About the role
We are seeking an experienced Engineer Process to support the safe and effective operation of the Brine Concentrator as part of the Ranger Uranium Mine Rehabilitation Project.
This role plays a critical part in one of Australia’s most significant environmental rehabilitation programs, focused on long term protection of the surrounding Kakadu World Heritage Area. Working closely with site operations, maintenance, and technical teams, you will provide process engineering expertise to ensure compliant, reliable, and optimised management of high salinity process streams.
This is a site based technical role with genuine accountability and influence, suited to an engineer who values safety, environmental stewardship, and continuous improvement.
The role operates on 2 weeks on, 1 week off roster, with Darwin as the point of hire.
Reporting to the Superintendent Maintenance and Operations onsite, you will be responsible for:
- Providing process engineering support and technical stewardship for the Brine Concentrator and associated water treatment systems
- Defining and maintaining the Brine Concentrator operating envelope, control philosophy, and critical process limits
- Ensuring regulatory compliance, managing process risk, and optimising performance across variable operating and seasonal conditions.
- Monitoring plant performance, identify process constraints, and support optimisation initiatives
- Troubleshoot process issues including scaling, fouling, corrosion, and chemical management
- Supporting safe operations in line with environmental approvals, site standards, and rehabilitation objectives
- Contributing to risk assessments, incident investigations, and continuous improvement activities
- Working collaboratively with Operations, Maintenance, Projects, and external service providers
- Supporting trials, testing, and implementation of process improvements
- Contributing to technical documentation, knowledge sharing, and capability development onsite
About you
- A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
- Degree qualification in Chemical, Process, or Mechanical Engineering
- Experience in process engineering, ideally within water treatment, brine management, or high salinity systems
- Strong understanding of process safety, regulatory compliance, and risk management
- Practical, site focused approach with the ability to work effectively in operational environments
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work across multidisciplinary teams
- C Class Drivers Licence
It would also be beneficial if you have:
- Experience with BC plant or evaporator systems, mine water management, and site closure or rehabilitation projects
- Strong capability in technology trials, plant performance improvement, and risk assessments (e.g. HAZOP), with comfort working in dynamic operating environments involving large‑scale water management
What we offer
Be recognised for your contribution, your thinking and your hard work, and go home knowing you’ve helped the world progress.
- A work environment where safety is always the number one priority

Where you’ll be working
Energy Resources of Australia Ltd (ERA) operated the Ranger Uranium Mine near the town of Jabiru in the Northern Territory, Australia, previously mining and producing uranium oxide. In January 2021, ERA ceased all mining and processing activities at Ranger after 40 years of operation with the focus now shifting to rehabilitation.
The Ranger Rehabilitation Project is committed to the rehabilitation of the Ranger Project Area to a standard that will establish an environment similar to the adjacent Kakadu National Park. In 2024, ERA entered into a Management Services Agreement (MSA) with Rio Tinto to manage the Ranger Rehabilitation Project, which will build on ERA’s existing rehabilitation work with Rio Tinto’s technical expertise in designing, scoping and executing closure projects. We remain committed to working with all key stakeholders, including the Mirarr People to complete this important rehabilitation work.
Applications close on 13th August 2026 (Rio Tinto reserves the right to remove advertised roles prior to this date).
