Job Description

French & Parrello Associates (FPA) is seeking a Senior Staff Engineer for our Municipal department in Newark, NJ. Responsibilities - Support the planning, design, and execution of municipal infrastructure projects, including roadway improvements, drainage systems, water distribution, sanitary sewer systems, and capital improvement programs - Perform engineering calculations and assist in the preparation of technical specifications, reports, and construction documents - Develop plans, profiles, and details using design software such as AutoCAD Civil 3D under the guidance of senior staff - Coordinate with project managers and team members to support timely and efficient project delivery - Assist with permit applications and coordination with municipal clients, regulatory agencies, and utility providers - Review shop drawings, RFIs, and contractor submittals with oversight from senior engineers - Provide construction support services, including responding to field inquiries and participating in site visits as needed - Attend project meetings and assist with documentation of key decisions and action items - Support the preparation of cost estimates, schedules, and project budgets - Ensure work is performed in accordance with applicable codes, standards, and agency requirements - Contribute to a collaborative team environment and actively participate in professional development opportunities Qualifications - Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field - 2–4 years of relevant experience in municipal engineering or public infrastructure projects - Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification preferred (or ability to obtain) - Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D and Microsoft Office Suite - Basic understanding of municipal design standards and permitting processes - Strong written and verbal communication skills - Good organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines - Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to project sites as needed Benefits We understand that a fulfilling career is about more than just the work you do – it’s about feeling secure in your health, confident in your financial future, and balanced in your personal and professional life. Actual compensation will depend on factors such as experience, education and skill set. Key Responsibilities
