Job Description
**Do work that matters**
At CommBank, we’re building the future of banking by creating simple, intuitive and accessible digital experiences for millions of Australians. Our Design Systems team plays a critical role in enabling scale, quality and consistency across our digital ecosystem.
As a Senior UI Designer within Lumen, CommBank’s Design System, you’ll proactively drive efficiencies across one of the largest digital teams in the southern hemisphere. You’ll collaborate closely with engineers, designers and business stakeholders to advocate for and evolve the CommBank Design System across our key retail assets – the CommBank app and NetBank.
**See yourself in our team**
Lumen is the foundational design system that underpins CommBank’s digital products. Our team focuses on creating accessible, modular and production‑ready components that help teams move faster while maintaining high standards of quality and consistency.
This role is well suited to a senior‑level designer with a strong UI or Product Design craft, who enjoys working at system level, partnering deeply with engineering, and influencing design outcomes at scale.
**What you’ll do**
- Design, evolve and maintain UI components and patterns within the Lumen Design System.
- Collaborate daily with engineers to ensure designs are feasible, scalable and production‑ready.
- Advocate for accessibility, usability and consistency across web and native platforms.
- Provide guidance and support to product and design teams consuming the design system.
- Conduct design system research, including interviewing and gathering feedback from designers and engineers.
- Champion best practice in UI design, interaction design and system governance.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of design processes, tooling and workflows.
**What you’ll bring:**
**Technical knowledge and craft**
- Strong UI design capability with a high level of attention to detail.
- Demonstrated understanding of front‑end development concepts; experience with design tokens is highly regarded.
- Experience designing for web and native platforms (iOS and/or Android).
- Advanced proficiency in Figma, including components, libraries and system management.
- Ability to create usable, accessible and modular designs in a sustainable way.
**Collaboration and communication**
- Proven experience working effectively in low‑ego, cross‑functional teams.
- Confidence to collaborate with, and constructively challenge, engineering partners.
- Clear and effective communication skills, with the ability to give and receive feedback.
- Experience working with diverse stakeholders in fast‑paced, complex environments.
**Design system advocacy and leadership**
- Experience providing guidance and direction on design systems to multiple teams.
- Capability to conduct design system user research and translate insights into improvements.
- A track record of contributing to or driving successful outcomes from design systems.
- Passion for acting as an ambassador and champion for design system adoption.
**Continuous improvement**
- Proactive mindset focused on improving efficiency and streamlining ways of working.
- Curiosity and commitment to staying current with design, technology and industry trends.
- Ability to identify and leverage new Figma features to improve system quality and usage.
- Awareness of, and alignment with, platform standards such as Apple Human Interface Guidelines and Material Design.
**Why CommBank?**
You’ll be part of a supportive, inclusive and forward‑thinking design community, working on products used by millions of customers every day. At CommBank, you’ll have the opportunity to grow your craft, influence at scale, and do work that truly matters.
