Job Description

Texas Education Agency (TEA) is seeking an experienced Senior Software Developer to design, develop, test, and maintain enterprise-level applications. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in .NET technologies, relational databases, ETL development, Agile methodologies, and DevOps practices. This role involves building custom business applications from scratch, leading technical design, collaborating with stakeholders, and driving projects through the complete Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC). This is a 12-month contract position (with possible extension) starting September 2026, engaged through a preferred vendor. Position is 90% remote with occasional onsite meetings required in Austin, TX. Local or nearby candidates with prior state government experience preferred; visa and driver's license copy required along with 3 professional references.

Key Responsibilities

Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain enterprise applications
Lead the complete SDLC from requirements gathering through production support
Build custom .NET applications from the ground up
Collaborate with business stakeholders to translate requirements into technical solutions
Develop and support ETL processes and centralized reporting solutions
Write high-quality, secure, and scalable code using .NET technologies
Perform code reviews and enforce development best practices
Participate in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, reviews, and retrospectives
Utilize GitHub Copilot and AI-assisted development tools to improve productivity
Develop containerized applications using Docker
Mentor development teams and promote continuous improvement

Requirements

Prior state government project experience preferred
Locals or candidates nearby Austin, TX preferred
Valid visa documentation and driver's license copy required
3 professional references required
Strong expertise in .NET technologies
Experience with relational databases and ETL development
Experience with Agile methodologies and DevOps practices
Experience with Docker and containerized application development
