Job Description
##
UX Designer - Hybrid, Cary, North Carolina
We’re a leader in data and AI. Through our software and services, we inspire customers around the world to transform data into intelligence - and questions into answers.
If you're looking for a dynamic, fulfilling career with flexibility and a world-class employee experience, you'll find it here. We're recognized around the world for our inclusive, meaningful culture and innovative technologies by organizations like Fast Company, Forbes, Newsweek and more.
About the job
The Core UI design team within the R&D Foundation Division is looking for a UX Designer to help shape the shared application experiences that power SAS platforms and applications. These experiences form the backbone of how users navigate, manage, and interact with SAS solutions—supporting onboarding, system administration, and cross-application workflows.
You will play a key role in designing cohesive, scalable experiences across shared applications such as system management, data access, and content workflows. You’ll have the opportunity to take ownership of complex problem spaces and help guide design direction across teams.
You’ll collaborate closely with Product Management, Engineering, and Design partners to bring clarity, consistency, and usability to foundational platform experiences.
As a UX Designer, you will:
- Design intuitive, user-centered, end-to-end experiences that seamlessly integrate AI capabilities (e.g. recommendations, generative features, administrative tools, system workflows, and cross-product interactions)
- Create user flows, wireframes, and high-fidelity prototypes to communicate complex concepts clearly and effectively
- Help define and scale reusable patterns and interaction models that support consistency across SAS products
- Partner with cross-functional teams to align on priorities, refine requirements, and ensure high-quality delivery
- Conduct and apply user research, usability testing, and feedback to inform design decisions
- Contribute to and leverage the SAS Filament Design System to ensure scalable, consistent design solutions
- Collaborate with accessibility experts to ensure inclusive and usable experiences
- Collaborate with engineering teams on React-based front-end applications
- Embrace curiosity, passion, authenticity and accountability. These are our values and influence everything we do.
Required qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in User Experience (UX), Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Interactive Design, Graphic Design, Industrial Design, or a related field
- 5+ years of experience in UX design, product design, or related field
- Experience designing complex systems or enterprise applications (e.g., admin tools, dashboards, workflow-driven products)
- Strong interaction design skills across multi-step workflows and cross-product experiences
- Proficiency with modern design and prototyping tools (e.g., Figma, Adobe Creative Suite)
- Experience working with or contributing to design systems and reusable components
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate with product managers and engineers to deliver user-centered solutions
- Strong communication skills with the ability to articulate design decisions and influence outcomes
- Online portfolio demonstrating end-to-end design work (research, workflows, prototypes, and shipped solutions)
- Equivalent combination of related education, training and experience may be considered in place of the above qualifications.
Additional competencies, knowledge and skills
- Decision Making: Identifying and understanding problems and opportunities by gathering, analyzing, and interpreting quantitative and qualitative information; choosing the best course of action by establishing clear decision criteria, generating and evaluating alternatives, and making timely decisions; taking action that is consistent with available facts and constraints and optimizes probable consequences.
- Quality Orientation: Accomplishing tasks by considering all areas involved, no matter how detailed; showing concern for all aspects of the job; accurately checking processes and tasks; being watchful over a period of time.
- Innovation: Creating novel solutions with measurable value for existing and potential customers (internal or external); experimenting with new ways to solve work problems and seize opportunities that result in unique and differentiated solutions.
- Collaborating: Working cooperatively with others to help a team or work group achieve its goals.
- Accessibility Awareness: Applying awareness of accessibility considerations in data visualization and partnering with specialists to support inclusive experiences.
- Leadership Potential: Ability to take ownership of visualization initiatives, contributing to design direction, and demonstrating initiative to grow into broader leadership responsibilities.
