Open to: Division-Wide Work Week: NL (35-hour) Work Week Salary: (P22) $67,312.27 – $98,503.27 Opening Date: 07/09/2026 Closing Date: 07/23/2026 Existing Vacancies: 1 Program/Location Department of Environmental Protection Watershed and Land Management Division of Resilience Engineering and Construction Bureau of Dam Safety 501 East State Street Trenton, NJ 08625 Scope of Eligibility Open to permanent employees in a competitive title that work for the Division of Resilience Engineering and Construction and meet the requirements below. IMPORTANT NOTICE: Please be advised that a promotional examination has been announced for this position by the Civil Service Commission (Symbol #: PS9352G). The selected provisional candidate may be impacted once the promotional list is issued, based on the outcome of the examination results. Description Under limited supervision of a supervisory official in a state department, institution, agency, or local government agency, performs professional engineering work including but not limited to water management, air pollution control/management, noise pollution control/management, coastal resource management, hazardous/non-hazardous waste control/management; reviews engineering plans, makes determinations and/or recommendations on plans; field visits, inspections, investigations/surveys; gathers data, researches and analyzes information as it relates to environmental control work; and/or the enforcement of environmental laws and/or regulations; works with Environmental Impact Statements; does related work as required. Specific to the Position Process dam repair permits, dam failure / flood modeling, plan review (including hydrologic, hydraulic, geotechnical and structural dam design), review consultant inspection reports, inspection of dams (safety, construction and emergency inspections), emergency response, review Emergency Action Plans (EAP) and Operation and Maintenance Manuals (O&M). Preferred Skillset Civil engineering, computer modeling, GIS, letter writing. Requirements EDUCATION: Graduation from an accredited college with a Bachelor's degree in Civil, Chemical, Mechanical, Environmental, Ocean, Coastal, Bio-Resource, Sanitary, Industrial, Agricultural or Mining Engineering, or other field of engineering related to the environment. NOTE: A valid Professional Engineer's license issued by the New Jersey State Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors may be substituted for the Bachelor's degree in Engineering. EXPERIENCE: Two (2) years of professional experience in environmental engineering work. NOTE: A Master's degree in one of the fields specified above may be substituted for one (1) year of the above experience. License Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position. ​​​​​ Veteran's Preference To qualify for New Jersey Veteran's Preference/status, you must establish Veteran's Preference through the Department of Military and Veteran's Affairs.
