Position Title: SPED Job Developer/Coach for Special Services

GENERAL SUMMARY:
Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, provide designated special education students with job site and employment training and guidance in the enhancement of transition skills, visit job sites to oversee and monitor progress of student vocational activities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned.
Collaborate with teachers, guidance counselors, and transition staff to obtain job placements for special education students that are aligned with their IGPs, career interests and transition goals.
Provide designated special education students with job site and employment training and guidance in the enhancement of transition skills; monitor, assess and adjust training activities in response to student progress, performance and behavior.
Develop a local employer base for students;establish and maintain contact with local employers providing vocational opportunities to students; visit job sites to oversee and monitor progress of student vocational activities; assess student needs and abilities and provide appropriate job training strategies.
Assist students in establishing and reaching their transition goals; assist students by answering questions, providing proper examples, emotional support, friendly attitude and general guidance; assist students concerning appropriate job site conduct, punctuality, work ethics and self-discipline.
Transport students in a district-owned vehicle to and from job sites; lift students in wheelchairs in and out of vehicles; utilize a wheelchair lift as appropriate.
Act as primary contact for job site supervisors; communicate with teachers and others concerning student progress, performance and behavior.
Attend continuing education programs on the certified Career Development Facilitator curriculum sponsored by the State.
Prepare and maintain various records and reports such as, mileage, student progress, student work hours completed.
Attend and participate in a variety of meetings as assigned.
Provide routine first aid to students according to established procedures as needed.
Assist SPED teachers with conducting transition assessments annually.
Monitor student maintenance of work log.
Complete a work styles inventory with students prior to beginning their work based learning experience.
Demonstrate understanding of the South Carolina High School Employability Credential work experience matrix.
OTHER DUTIES:
Perform related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of:
Child guidance principles and practices related to children with special education needs.
Basic instructional methods and techniques
Community agencies providing vocational opportunities to special education students.
Job site procedures and appropriate student conduct
Problems and concerns of students with special needs
Diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of students.
Policies and objectives of assigned programs and activities
Principles, practices and procedures of vocational training programs.
Operation of standard office and job site equipment
Record-keeping and report preparation techniques.
First aid and CPR Procedures
Ability to:
Provide designated special education students with job site and employment training and guidance in the enhancement of transition skills.
Monitor, assess and adjust training activities in response to student progress, performance and behavior.
Visit job sites to oversee and monitor progress of student vocational activities.
Demonstrate a variety of vocational functions, tasks and activities.
Provide students with community-based functions and learning activities to enhance social interaction skills, etiquette and manners.
Operate standard office and job site equipment
Understand and relate to students with special needs
Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
Observe health and safety regulations
Maintain records and prepare reports
Administer first aid and CPR
Demonstrate interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy.
Maintain regular and reliable attendance
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's Degree and one year working experience with special education students in an organized setting.
Career Development Facilitator Certification
CERTIFICATES/LICENSES/REGISTRATIONS:
Valid South Carolina driver's license.
Valid First Aid and CPR Certificate issued by an authorized agency.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentage, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate office and job site equipment
Walking, sitting or standing for extended periods of time.
Bending at waist, kneeling or crouching
Seeing to read a variety of materials and monitor student progress.
Hearing and speaking to exchange information
Lifting and carrying students or pushing students in wheelchairs as assigned by the position
Lifting,carrying, pushing and pulling moderately heavy objects as assigned by the position.
Reaching overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally.

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the board's policy on Evaluation of Administrative Personnel.
